I’ve been hearing about Tuna Melts and Tuna Sandwiches for ages. After having gone right past cans of Tuna at umpteen supermarkets for the past few years, I finally thought I’d pick up a can a few weeks back. After doing a little research over the web (which essentially means reading other people’s recipes), I finally made one today. And I was not disappointed. Tastes very nice and quite different from my regular Grilled Chicken Ham and Lettuce-based sandwiches.

Here’s what you need for 1 Grilled Tuna Sandwich:

Tuna – 1/2 small can

Mayonisse – 3-4 Tablespoon

Mustard – 1 Tablespoon

Oregano – 1 Teaspoon

Chilli Flakes – 1 Teaspoon

Pepper – 1 Teaspoon

Salt – 1/2 Teaspoon

Onion – 1 Small (Thinly Sliced)

Tomato – 1 Small (Sliced)

Lemon Juice – 1 Tablespoon or Half a Lemon

Cheddar Cheese – 1/4 Cup (Please increase or decrease as per your preference!)

Mozzarella Cheese – 2 Tablespoon (Very little)

Bread – 2 Slices (I prefer using Brown Bread Loafs or something a little more fancy than the usual off-the-shelf run-of-the-mill mass produced Bread, but it works fine)

  1. Start by slicing the onion really thin and put it in a small bowl. Put in the Mayo, Mustard, Tuna, Lemon Juice, Oregano, Chilli Flakes, Pepper and Salt. Mix really well with a fork. You wanna break the tuna flakes down at this point. Taste the ‘salad’ and increase or decrease the flavoring as per your preference.
  2. Turn on the sandwich griller if you have one or heat up a non-stick pan.
  3. Spoon the salad on to one slice and top it with 4 slices of tomatoes and then put all the cheese on it. Put the other slice on top.
  4. Put the sandwich in the grill or on the pan. Wait for the sandwich to cook if you’re using the grill. If you’re using a pan, wait 2 minutes for one side of the sandwich to get crisp. Put butter of the other side and flip it. Cover the pan at this point so that the cheese melts. This will take about 2 minutes. Uncover, and Enjoy!

You could also use Cottage Cheese or Roasted Chicken Breast in place of the tuna. I’m sure it will taste nice. 🙂
